Master George Clement
and the History of
Houma Oriental Martial Arts College

Houma Oriental Martial Arts College was started by George Clement Jr. and Joey Yesso in the early 1980’s. They began formal Martial Arts training in Houma in 1982. After learning all they could from several local schools and surviving several school closings, they began looking for something more reliable. With no place to train and being ambitious, they opened their own Martial Arts school in 1984. Desiring to learn more and wanting to achieve a certifiable Black Belt, they began searching South Louisiana for a good association to join. After competing in Grandmaster Myoung K. Park’s Oriental Martial Arts College’s 9th and 10th Championships (karate tournaments) in 1984 and 1985, they were impressed by Grandmaster Park’s organization. So in early 1985 they joined Grandmaster Myoung K. Park’s Oriental Martial Arts College in Marrero, Louisiana. Being impressed by their Martial Arts abilities and dedication to training, Grandmaster Park accepted George and Joey as 1st Gup (3rd Red Belt) students and began their Tang Soo Do training immediately. Grandmaster Park tested and promoted them to 1st Dan (1st degree Black Belt) in August of 1985. In 1986 Joey sold his share of Houma Oriental Martial Arts College to George, who continued teaching the Houma school and training with Grandmaster Park. George tested and was promoted to 2nd Dan in 1988, 3rd Dan in 1991 and was the third student ever promoted to 4th Dan (Master Instructor) by Grandmaster Park in 1995. He was the first O.M.A.C. student ever promoted to 5th Dan on December 12, 2003, and to 6th Dan on December 17, 2006.

Master Clement organized and participated in the four O.M.A.C. summer Camps held from 1992 through 1995, in Grand Isle, Louisiana. These camps were instructed by Grandmaster M.K. Park (Marrero, Louisiana), Grandmaster Moo Young Kang and Grandmaster Young Su Hyun (both of San Diego, California), and all Oriental Martial Arts College instructors. All aspects of Martial Arts training were addressed at these camps, including weapons, self-defense, sparring, forms, pressure points, and Hapkido training. Master Clement has also attended numerous fighting, forms, self-defense, weapons, and Hapkido seminars instructed by Grandmaster M.K. Park, Grandmaster Moo Young Kang and Master Jin Park, adding to his mastery of Tang Soo Do and his broad knowledge of the Martial Arts. He plans to continue teaching in Houma and training with Grandmaster Park and the Oriental Martial Arts College until it is physically impossible to do so.
